Local Area Beaches

Pentewan Sands (3 miles), dog friendly 1 Nov - 1 Mar

Polstreath, Mevagissey (4 miles, DF)

Vault beach near Gorran haven (8 miles, DF all year)

The Cornish coastline is stunning and widely varied with some wide sandy beaches, small rocky coves, dramatic cliffs, rugged backdrops and some crystal clear waters that might make you think you could be in the Caribbean.

Many beaches have direct access to the SW Coastal path for walkers to particularly enjoy.

Note some beaches have seasonal dog restrictions - see photos section on this page for some local beach images and captions which show approx distance from the barn and dog info).

Pentewan Sands is a fabulous wide sandy beach just a few minutes away and the holiday park side also has a soft play, restaurant, swimming pool with small water slides which you can pay to use at certain times.

We also love Gorran Haven and Vault Beach (next to Gorran Haven), Porthluny beach (at Caerhays), Pendower and Carne, all easily reached in 15 to 20 minutes or so).

Polstreath at Mevagissey just 10 minutes away has around 200 steps down to the beach but is dog friendly all year.

Hemmick is a family favourite about 7 miles or 15 to 20 mins away. There is a narrow road down to the beach with no parking at the beach itself in the summer and room for only half a dozen cars outside of the main summer holidays, (park at Dodman, National Trust car park a quarter of a mile up the hill). It's quiet, sandy and has some coves around the rocks so is quite private/sheltered. Direct access to and from the SW coastal path and dog friendly all year.

Porthpean and Par beaches are also only 10 to 15 minutes away in the other direction.

Charlestown 15 mins away is pebbly and has dog restrictions at certain times of the year.

There are many more beaches all around the north and south coasts. See 'Cornwall's Best beach guide' on the bookshelf in the barn for more information on a selection of the best beaches around the county's coast.
